Green roofs consist of a green space created by adding layers of growing medium (soil) and plants on top of a traditional roofing system. They replace the vegetated footprint that was destroyed
during construction. Green roofs promise to become an increasingly important option for building owners by providing, among other things, energy efficiency, a longer roof life and sound insulation. At Greendatabase.org students will be involved in the design and construction process of a green roof at the Sowinski Sullivan Architects office. The project is intended to promote green roof research, education, and technology to understand the impacts of green roofs in the environment and community. |
